"ENLIGHTENMENT"

Wary and equivocal I traveled alone

Through the desert of my heart I was destined to roam

Darkness consumed me, enslaved me and broke me

I longed for the light that at one time awoke me

Escape was uncertain, I began to despair

Drowning in sadness I was gasping for air

The mocking of joyless faces ensued

And their gnashing jaws furiously chewed

Suddenly a brilliant flash of light

Tore at the darkness and restored my sight

It banished the desert and calmed the sea

In one valiant effort it rescued me

Lightly its tendrils enveloped my heart

Caressing the shards that had broken apart

It soothed me and healed me like nothing could do

That light was an angel and that angel was you
