Wheels
Of A Cart
You
claim you have given me the best years of your life
You
say you’ve wasted your life by becoming my wife
But
tell me; are you the only one consigned to doom?
Did
I not lose anything when I became your groom?
If
your talents got neglected and your career you lost
Do
you really believe you’re the only one who paid the cost?
What
about me? And the freedom I craved?
And
that by marrying you I became enslaved
I
gave up my carefree life when I became your spouse
Toiled
from dawn to dusk to give you this house
Though
with the house a beautiful home you have made
And
my appreciation for this I have always conveyed
Perhaps
I don’t use the kind of language you wish to hear
But
as a man, I show my feelings quite differently, my dear
You’ve
given me children that I am proud of today
Without
you I couldn’t have them, what more can I say?
I’ve
tried to give you all the material comforts you need
They
just didn’t fall from heaven; I had to toil for them indeed
I
know you have worked hard in order to keep house
But
to suggest that only you work is indeed an unfair grouse
We’re
two wheels of a cart banded and bonded by steel
And
you know a cart wouldn’t move if it had but one wheel
Due
to the years the wheels suffer from wear and tear
But
life’s slow journey we both as parallels share
So
please stop complaining that for me you’ve lost out on life
And
don’t forget that you were quite eager to become a wife
Would
you have preferred to live with me and not marry?
And
risk having to move from Tom to Dick and then Harry?
If
marriage was a mistake, it’s a mistake we’ve both made
Though
we had no choice and the table was already laid
If
you’re counting sacrifices, then count my sacrifices too
I
too gave up many things when I decided to marry you
