The Web Of Deceit

The spider weaves a delicate and precise web,
That sparkles like diamonds after the rain;
As the sun reaches forth with its long fingers,
Creating a false impression of a safe domain.

The spider hungrily allows its unsuspecting prey,
To entangle itself beyond hope...now fatally;
Trapped in the web, with neither beginning nor end,
To be devoured by it’s captor, quite eagerly.

We sometimes fall victim to another kind of web,
Enticed by methods we find romantically appealing;
Smooth words, unfamiliar courtesies.. promises
That flatter us and tamper with our feelings.

Until we are hopelessly entangled.. progressively
Dependent on word, lavish attention and such;
We are being devoured slowly, little by little,
Until we painfully realize too late.. just how much.

Of ourselves we have lost in this stratagem,
Now only hurt and heartache remains instead;
Needing time for our broken heart to heal,
From the many schemed ways we were misled.

Hopefully, we’ll emerge a much wiser person,
Careful to recognize the next web that appears;
Appealing as it may be, we move with caution,
True love never traps.. it frees, and lasts for years.
