Symbiosis

He, the tall tree
With spreading branches
Rugged bark
Resplendent leaves.

She, the delicate vine
Of colourful flowers
Drifting scent
And arresting beauty.

She sought shelter
He was generous
He stood rooted, bedazzled.
She whispered conviction
About a symbiotic pact.

She clung to him
Around his trunk
Caressing him
With her tender tendrils.
Then, branch after branch
Under her spell the tree fell.

The pact was truly give and take
He gave, she took.
In time, there was only vine
No tree in sight.

She dominated
He was subordinated
Promise of symbiosis
Died
A silent death.
