The Significance Of A Star

The stars shone brightly over the fields
Where the shepherds tended their sheep;
A few miles away, in a Bethlehem stable
A tired mother and her new babe did sleep.

One carol asks...What child is this?
Another says.. The King of angels is born;
The world, in an instant.. was blessed by
The event of that first Christmas morn.

As I place a star on top of my tree this
Christmas, in my mind's eye I see
That star in the Eastern sky that day, as
It lighted the way for the wise men three.

I can see the cave in the shepherds field,
And the shepherd, still tending his flock;
I can see the busy streets in Bethlehem
As in my mind's eye, I turn back the clock

To the time when, in a lowly stable,
This heralded birth silently took place
As my Lord came to earth, thus beginning
His journey toward death and disgrace.

The stars still light the skies over the field
Of the shepherds.. still lighting the way;
Reminding them of that very special time
When the angel appeared to them.. to say:

"For unto you is born this day in the city
Of David, a Savior which is Christ, the Lord";
Two thousand years has passed since then, as
That Child lives on, through the living Word.

The star is still there as a silent reminder
That we don't have to walk this earth alone;
His light is ever there in remembrance
Of the brightest star that's ever shone.
