SHOULD
I TAKE THE CHANCE?
Is
the jewel that I seek, really a treasure?
Or a mirage, created for my pleasure,
Will it manifest, out of my dream, to tangible touch,
Will it be smoothly carved, shiny, lucent and such,
Or fractured and frail, and not weigh as much,
Will it break the light, and acquiesce vitreous glow,
Proffer a tinge, meriting, obeisance of rainbow,
Or will it be trifle, friable, dull and mar,
Will it be within reach, or will I have to go far,
Could it be that I find a gem, with polish and luster,
One I can cherish, revere, nurture and foster,
The calling shrill, the urging thrill, atonement high,
Immolation, and sacrifice, in a blink of an eye,
Will it be a failed encounter, and tear my dream apart,
Or a copious gem, likely shaped, the size of my heart.
Then I ponder at this, a foolish, asinine request,
Denuded and bereaved, of reason dispossessed,
Aware of moot, dubious truth, hopeless manifest,
What I expect to gain, from this arduous quest?
But my spirit has received, irrevocable behest,
Temptation to unveil, content of treasure chest,
Even if the heart bled, and the soul transgressed.
So I set to sail, though I may fail, and I embark,
Dire to prey, fearless to death, as a tiger shark,
But for now, my precious gem, you can stay asleep,
As I travel, through the depth of, ocean canyons deep,
I’ll come upon, austerity, obstacles so steep,
But hope is high, covet ample, ambition heap,
Gamble the fate, be it a gem, riches I sweep,
Ebbing fortune; A broken heart, the reward I reap.
And if they ask, the reason for, my straits of dire,
What I pursue, what I follow, to what I inspire,
I will tell of, hunger in me, and my yearning desire,
Illusive dream, aspiration, and my heart full of fire.
