Rejected Wish - Prayer Denied
I know that you wish the leaves were green,
That the end of the horizon was not yet seen,
That somehow the nature would intervene,
So my blessings of youth would reconvene.
That the spring was here instead of this fall,
That the hair and the head be more withal,
That I was someone else, perhaps a bit tall,
Prevailed the seasons, and the aging squall.
I lived a life of peace and serene,
Not a contender of the silver screen,
Never knew that I will meet the queen,
No one knows of love unforeseen.
So I stood mourning at the wailing wall,
Wishful and wrapped in my prayer shawl,
Lighting candles for St. Peter and Paul,
And asked if they would take it back all,
"Take my years, I'll be for ever your thrall",
Then I heard a voice in thunder and anguish,
' You appealed for this, in a state of languish, '
' We’ve seen butterfly turn to saltwater fish, '
' But have never taken back a granted wish, '
Then I knew that the moment would befall,
When your swish would turn into sadly bawl,
And my whisper to morose caterwaul,
Your love diminished, you will stall,
I’ll live a life of no easy sprawl,
Will spend it all on a painful scrawl.
