Redefining A Self

Sometimes it hurts
excruciatingly
when you lose yourself
completely
in another
and when they need
to move away
you just can't see
the pieces anymore
to put yourself
together
once again.

With stark emptiness
you try to tell yourself
apart from that belief
that oneness
feeling a deep void
where you
should have been.

Redefining
a self
that had somewhere
ceased to exist
as apart....

Whether parent friend or spouse
You fill up someone's need
put in all of you and more
but the real strengthening
is when you can move away
put together all the pieces
and smile for that
new-found confidence....
