Mixed Emotions

I don’t want to want you the way that I want you.

I don’t want to love you as much as I do.

I don’t want to need you, but I really need to.

My only comfort is you need me, too.

In love with you, babe, is not how I should be.

My head is saying that we ought to part,

But I can’t do it.  Oh baby, you must see

My head is subject to my heart.

Hundreds of thoughts and feelings are swirling.

If I were wise, I know I would run,

But I remember how you set me twirling,

Dancing with breeze and face to the sun.

To have your heart from another is stealing.

To give you mine I know is a sin.

I just can’t see how to get past this feeling,

So I keep fighting a fight I can’t win.

Still, I believe there is hope for tomorrow,

That we will be with each other some day,

And, though I know it might bring me to sorrow,

I love, want and need you in every way.
