Mixed Emotions

Our lives take many different turns,
Some are planned..others are not;
Each turn plays a definite role in our life,
Some are remembered and some forgot.

There are turns that can lead to joy
As long as the road remains smooth;
But that same road can turn to sadness
If by chance the two become aloof.

The sharing of hearts then become abandoned
As the path becomes strewed with thorns;
To continue this travel would be folly
As the hearts become desolate..and torn.

Shall we follow then another turn ?
On the road that seems safe and secure?
Or suffer the wounds that love will incur,
Knowing the pain that may be in store?

Wrestling with these mixed emotions,
I face tomorrow with its many turns;
The choices I make will lead the way,
Will it be smooth...or found among the thorns?
