LET Me Be Different

I'd rather be a palm tree
In a mango grove
Or a brief shooting star
Among all the stars above.

Let me be a weed
In the vegetable plot
Or among rows of dashes
Just a simple dot.

May I be a ripple
On a placid pond
Or in a jackfruit tree
A swaying palm frond.

Let me be a salmon
And swim against the stream
Or the only thatched hut
In a posh housing scheme.

I'd rather be a goat
In a flock of sheep
In a room full of laughter
Be the only one to weep.

Let me just be anything
As long as I'm not the rest
I just wish to be different
Even if I'm not the best.
