Let me sleep

Why knock on my door
To wake me up
From my slumber so deep
I'm lost in dreams
Of my rose-scented need
And you wish to arouse me
To see how you bleed

I've seen all that before
For me it's nothing new
To watch corpses on pavements
With bloated faces blue
You may be one of them
But what can I do
When I'm just one more
Standing in queue

Let me go back to sleep
In a world that's square
Avoid this daily onslaught
Of sorrows that are there
Spare me your problems
I don't want your pain
In sheer deadened ignorance
Do let me remain

Your hunger always moved me
Throughout my past
And I carved myself like turkey
For your repast
But when I lay dying
You didn't come to my door
You took yourself elsewhere
In search of something more

Now you come back again
To wake me from my sleep
Reminding me of past promises
That I'm honour bound to keep
But for once I don't care
If you call me untrue
Those promises died before me
While I was waiting for you
