The Invisible Cage

Fruits and flowers in orchards
Lakes and streams and falls
Summer rain and sunshine
Paradise had them all;
Yet, through bleak winters and arid land
The bird took to its wing
On a journey of a thousand miles
For it had heard its lover's call.

Our wings too flutter and flap
And struggle to follow our heart
During those rare lucid moments
When we too hear our call;
But the leash of our unwritten laws
Yank us back to the ground
Weigh us down and tie us up
And back into the cage we fall.
