Heartspeak Sonnet

In quietness you come, but not in peace.
The torture in your soul robs you of thought.
The agony you feel has no release.
You mourn your own existence, overwrought.
I reach for you to tell you that I care.
I look for meaning in your smallest word.
Your sorrow I’m unable to repair
My helplessness can’t fix what has occurred.

Though silent still, yet now you speak to me.
I understand your deep unuttered cry.
How eloquent your wordless fluency,
What volumes written in your smallest sigh!
Your heart communicates the words you lack
And in compassion my heart will talk back.
