The Empty Road

I stood in silence, to watch the abandoned road,
The horizon was a tablet of color code,
Vestige of the barn, in dimming sunlight erode,
The Moon loomed, the motion of the earth slowed,
The steady crickets, broke the silence in goad,
With a touch of breeze, the weeping willow bowed,
I waited for a shadow, to appear on that road,
The end of that path, was by the meadow stowed,
My pulse racing, my heart with a heavy load,
I hoped for arrival, whenever something glowed,
Or perhaps a hazy dust, to rise from that road,
A dancing phantom, was promise of treasure lode,
But every shadow emerged, and then quickly sowed,
The day melted, with echo of prelatic ode,
'....Behind the perfect rows of corn...
........Another lonely night is born'.
