The Desert Song

So many shades

and hues

we try to name and recognize

them

we try so hard so damn hard

and yet there is only one color to us

and it is white

we reach into us

and search for the same hue

the same tint

the same ream of paper

with the same color

we search high and low

and in all the diaries we ever wrote

and ever dared think

we look

and we learn

and the color stays pristine

and untouched

and virginal

and we are amazed

again and again

we thought we knew

we thought we had seen it all

and then we looked up

to each other

and saw the rest all fall

away

we are touched with this energy

indefinable

inexhaustible

boundless oceans

of energy

divine

and there are no words

except these ragged tatters I use now

to tell you

what I feel about you

suffused.......drowned ...

in the most mundane words

that we say to each other ....

in the ridiculous conversations which we have

in the rare silence shared

and heard so loud within

reverberating

resonating

with the sounds of us

within

in you

and in me

we are love

and we cannot deny

and resist

and pacify

and mollify

and plead

and restrain

and nothing will work

and no reins can hold back

this wild horse

this grey cloud

this hurricane

that has spattered our lives

with huge dew drops of heaven

and left us agape

looking at the apparition

of what we were and

what we used to be

in amazement of what we have found within

it was a small wisp of my heart for you

it was a breath of love

it was a vision we saw before we were together here

it was always us and will be

after we are here

it is there

forever

this small statue of

permanence

in the shelf where

there are only prizes

for souls who met

more than once

it adorns our thoughts

when we try not to think

it drowns out our feelings

which we try to feel

when we try to drown out the din

and the noise

the music just goes on ringing in our ears

long after and long before we are together

we are together

we are us

so indefinably and so immovably

us.
