Darkness my friend…

I listen to the crow on the windowsill
Ominously calling the dawn
Now I will lose that blanket of darkness
And lie exposed like grass on the lawn
The dewdrops you see are tears I shed
While you were asleep
Tell me dear friend of mine
Does a night owl ever weep?
I listen to the unending river
Flowing through the moonless night
While I wrap myself in comforting blackness
Broken only by distant starlight
May tomorrow never come
And past disappear from visionless eyes
The soap opera of broken promises
Like the river beside me lies
I know it would carry me
My cries would drown in it’s roar
Or float me in calm waters
Throw my stillness on another shore
What will cut this umbilical string?
That ties me to this earth
And carry me through that tunnel
Where light is yet another birth?
