Butterflies of May

The butterflies I sent away
Found a trail going your way
Followed a scent to your doorstep
And now, they have returned
With magnificent colors
They tell me of the rainbow
Of flowers that bloom in mist
They tell me to remind you
Just in case I may have missed:
Many times, in my desperate hour
I lost my sense and my will power
I longed to bathe you in perfumed shower
Then I thought of sending you a flower
But I have seen you by the garden urn
Tossing the rose and plucking the fern
As if the splendor gave your hand a burn
Not the beauty of the flower you entice
Nor is the nature you value for a price
But the sentiment and all the compassion
Of the rose brood with the mist of passion
And I haven't found a flower that can hold
A piece of my heart, wrapped neatly in a fold
To carry the pulse, so the story can be told
