WAITING FOR DAWN

Once again I sit and stare
Shades of shadows I compare
Darkness like a blanket worn
I am waiting for the dawn.

Ribbon'd clouds a canvas torn
The starlit sky above adorn
Perhaps somewhere a star's born
While I'm waiting for the dawn.

Crickets call far and near
In the distance a jackal I hear
The cat silently dripping scorn
I am waiting for the dawn.

Rustling leaves, creatures in fright
Flapping wings of an owl in flight
Something dies, something's born
While I'm waiting for the dawn.

Eyelids drooping, I look out far
I can no longer see a star
The shadows now are taking form
I'm still waiting for the dawn.

Navy sky, now a lighter hue
Time now to bid adieu
I wonder where sleep had gone
While I was  waiting for the dawn.
