The sunlight sparkling off your wine-hued wings

As you come out to bask, through the kitchen sink

Meandering o’er those lettuces so fresh and green

You amble out from beneath the door of the screen

Oh! How valiantly you scurry about, thumbing

Your feelers at those in the verandah lounging

Unafraid, master of all that you now openly survey

Unaware of the descending boot coming your way

Alas! A life well lived meets a valiant end

As you lie there, completely out of shape bent

Those heartless rogues that roam free and loose

Continue their ruthlessness and rampart abuse!
