Bonfire

Still darkness drapes

An icy silken wrap,

Enveloping snugly,

As leaping flames

Illuminate the virginal

Velvety snow of her cheeks,

And cinders, though veiled,

Continue to stroke and smoulder…

Into the breathless silence

The mountain stream gurgles,

Unable to contain its delight,

Skipping over smoothened

Pebbles within its fold,

And splashing daintily its bank,

Pleading to be set free

On its journey to consummation…

The smiles that spill

Stroke and fan the blaze,

Making slow heat spiral high,

Setting sparks soaring and leaping

To scorch the swaying arbour,

Till the silver of the moon

Is blocked and red-gold heat

Blankets the magical world of their eyes…
