An Anniversary

Moist eyed, I glance at the calendar,

Seeing printed there a numeral bold—

A day I have silently longed to order

To erase tears making my heart cold

It was a warm winter eve a year ago

And my world had stopped whirling

For you had wandered over with a hello

Giving some sense to emotions swirling

Now, I quietly gaze at that number

Telling myself it was not just a dream

But had lived after waking from a slumber

And experienced a love rare and supreme

Like a glass of cognac on a cold day

I now savour those moments come my way
