Scattered Dreams

I walked the earth,
for many long years,
searching for one who'd,
wipe away my tears.

Never such a soul,
did I find ever,
so I thought I'd give up,
 this futile endeavour.

Taking pity on me,
came forth the lonely night,
thinking I'd never let it go,
I held on to it tight.

It sang a sweet lullaby,
putting my tortured soul to sleep,
it stole my tears from me,
and no longer did I weep.

But it left silently,
leaving behind scattered dreams,
and now I'm lonely once forever,
or so it seems.
