Return to Slumber

In that still castle away from the world

The princess had one eve woken from her doze

Though no prince has kissed her, nor beckoned

She had felt the flush of passion’s prose

So freeing herself painfully from those vines

That had so long rooted and muted her song

She wandered searching wildly for him

In case he has lost his way or simply tarried along

The guard had stood by doing his silent bit

Guarding her wordlessly but with deep care

But sadly he wasn’t her prince masquerading

Though she did linger long, hoping in a prayer

With a bleeding heart and weeping feet

She wandered then over dales and vales

Calling aloud again and again, to finally see him there

Enfolding her in the embrace of a tender spell

Far and beyond in the crimson skies he lived

All around her, yet remaining forever so far

Never would he descend to her entangled world

To give her that one kiss she so longed for

So now she simply wants to return to doze

Accepting its better to sleep, let the guard do his deed

For the castle would stand as it always was

And destiny has long before, in her courtyard, planted this seed…
