Today,
I woke up to the chirping
of birds. Like I always do,
I stayed in bed for a while,
I lay there thinking of you.

 Today,
I sat on my porch
and stared at the brazen sun
defiantly, for I am not
afraid. I'm scared of no one.

 Today,
I held my breath
when I saw you walk
towards me. I observed
you mouth when you talked.

Today
I looked at life anew.
Opened my mind and my eyes
for today I have a chance
tomorrow it might be otherwise.
