TURNED PAGES

Familiar welcoming arms stretch out

Warm eyes earnestly seek to assure

Or try to at the very least

Pages of life pleading to be turned

New chapters opened, awaiting a look

Promising a clean fresh slate

The old, smudged, partially blotched

Story of our lives is being hidden from view

As we pretend it’s gone

Will the rustle of oncoming unknown winds

Ever flip them open once more, exposing

Those wounds that may heal

A slate once cleaned, a page once turned

May appear to be a beginning afresh

But will the past ever rest…
