SPUTTERING FIRST MATE

Late one night she met a man, who was game
Who asked if she too was
To launch upon an unchartered friendship
In this world of seas and storms

The journey began well my friend,
The ship was strong and made with care
And though the sea was wild and scary
The voyage seemed destined to fare well

The ship was captained by him my dear
And she was his first in charge,
But somewhere along the way it seems,
There was mutiny and surcharge!

The Captain decided then that this mate
Was overstepping her chain of command
Askance, overboard he threw her in a second
Leaving her sputtering, casting not another glance

The cold waters sure woke her quick
And sobered her of all fancies and fires,
She then realized that without him at the helm
There was nothing left of this friendship

So meekly the first mate then doth plead
If that unchartered friendship may restart?
And if she promised not to gush and mush
Would he agree to smile and forget all the fuss?
