If you were near me, I would sing a song
Of love and beauty, passion, joy and hope,
But somehow, since we've been apart so long,
Such heart-felt music is beyond my scope.
If you were near me, I could dance and shout.
With my whole being I'd express my heart.
But since we're parted, love, it seems I'm out
Of energy enough even to start.
I've tried to write my thoughts of you in rhyme,
But find my pencil sticks upon the page.
In flights of poetry my mind can't climb
While locked inside this separation cage.
Oh come to me, habeeby, and set free
These love expressions locked inside of me.
