Poems Form A Day At The Zoo

"Can I take a picture of you?"
Imagine, taking a picture of me
As I sit on a bench
Beside a path
Through the zoo,
Flamingos to my left
Gators , my right.
But I guess
A man,
Alone
On a bench
With writing pen
And pad
Is a curious thing to see.

"LOOK!"
What's that mommy?"
"You know what that is Ashley."
"It's a penguin mommy."
"That's right."

"Mommy?"
"Is a penguin a bird
Turning into a fish
Or a fish turning
Into a bird?"

This place does its best
To give thoughts a rise
Whether mundane and common,
Insightful and wise.
They're there for to gather
In measure and size
And gathering them
Should bring no surprise.
So I'll listen to them
And gather them too
For they're here in abundance
On the paths of the zoo.

With Apologies to Simon And Garfunkle

They said "it's all happening at the zoo"
I don't know that all is true
But in this day I wander through
All in all I wonder who
Is curious more,
A what or whom.
