THE FOLLOWER

Aye, aye, sir! Pray don't be inconvenienced
I sit by your feet-favor me, put them on my head
The smell of socks nauseating? Absolutely no, my lord
I am but gratified, to me it is better than roses and marigold

Is that your dog- snarling at me so majestically?
I am overcome sir, it barks so beautifully
I curse my fate that didn't give me tail- I yearn to wag to you
How wonderful to be patted on head and fed a bone by you!

Why are you glancing hither and thither? Pray tell me what you want
Do you have a headache or is the service errant?
It pains me to see you in such inconvenience
But great as you are- my protests were swept away by your insistence

You have come to give the public the grace of your presence
They must be very- very thankful for your patronage
Now, for the next five years I implore you take rest
I will run every errand- with your blessings, with haste

Pray sir, don't take notice- some jokers are protesting- loud and vulgar
I am agitated-their stupid noise may pierce through your sound slumber
I promise you sir, once canvassing is over and ballots are swept
I will see to it they lick your feet and you are entertained best
