THE END

(Dedicated to the 2000 batch of BITS, Pilani, India)

The clouds are gathering,
Covering the lights of the sky,
Grey gloom,
The onset of a mist,
Future unclear,
As each walks to his fate,
Moving further away,
Disappearing into the haze...

Left behind,
I see them set out,
Some together, others separate,
The silhouettes move on,
Slowly,
Sometimes turning back,
A momentary smile
That fades into oblivion.

Though the star is no longer visible,
I can still sense its presence,
Waiting for the clouds to part,
To shine on again someday...
I know this is the end
Of an era,
And the beginning of another,
But the darkening sky today
Removes all notions of the sun
Ever piercing through.

I am not sure if I can wait,
It's not fair,
To end this way,
A finality whose permanence
Remains unchallenged,
Except in my heart,
For a part of me knows
The thunder does not deceive,
A piece of the star has fallen,
It's raining...
