Kairibai

To the stormy shores the entourage made its way

For Kairi desired a last glimpse of those waters,

That she had so loved ere banished she quietly lay,

In the desert kingdom large as a bride most tender,

Of a royal King so wise, kind but now wholly grey

The turbulent waters echoed with a wild roar

In the confines of the small palki she rode,

As impatiently pushing aside the golden door

And lifting the mirror edged border of her veil,

Did Kairi swoop and speed towards the beloved shore

Then began the dance as she did with abandon race

Unmindful and joyous, from one end to the other,

Rejoicing in the warmth of the soil’s gritty embrace

As the waves revered her now free flowing limbs

Almost adrift in the Wind with an inherent grace

The Wind clung like a lover, and wound his fingers

And swung loose her traditional plait of her hair,

Freeing it to fan and caress her radiance and linger

While her hennaed feet sank into the moist cool sands

And Neptune tried to rival with a hold most tender

Shamelessly her pallu deserted her to wantonly fly

Liberated from the royal bondages of modesty,

And spread to billow into wings, and soar into the sky

Along with the breeze, like a colourful exotic bird

Quivering to the tune of Nature and innermost sighs;

Finally exhausted, gasping, she collapsed to encounter,

The shocked gazes of those who mutely watched,

Guardians of her modesty, aghast at her bold canter

Understanding naught, while she shuddered and tried

To recall that spirit that had soared into splendor

Trembling violently, as the veil was then restored,

And back to her cage was taken the bird that flew

The wind uprooted not, that rooted tree firmly cored

And erased the single tear that rolled forth and spilled

From the shell whence the spirit has been forever lured
