Just A Simple
Villanelle

We dared tomorrow to arrive
When forever young were we
For all around us was alive.
It was for us to onward strive.
While forgetting root but not the tree
We dared tomorrow to arrive.
'Twas in today we youth did thrive
And yesterday would never be
For all around us was alive.
We were the noise within the hive
And as we drank the nectar tea
We dared tomorrow to arrive.
Time had no power to deprive
The youthfulness at apogee
For all around us was alive.
But alas we now contrive
While piling sand to stop the sea
We dared tomorrow to arrive
For all around us was alive.
