As a child we are most often regaled
With tales of women who sailed
Through life as mere shadows
Of men, behind whom they trailed
Folklore ingrains in us the likes
Of those who follow their men
Till the ends of earth bare feet
Not once wincing aloud even then
Our goddesses were those who lent
Silent support, suffering with dignity
The epitome of a backbone never bent
Bearing the brunt of their men’s destiny
No matter what, the man he was
His actions dictated her life’s role
Be it to be banished for not a fault
From her home, for some noble goal
So to break free and find your true soul
Does often lead to pain and slander
And though these tales imprint deep
What is good for the goose is too for the
gander!
