Wildflowers

Lost in thoughts.. far away
lilting notes barely piercing
the consciousness
a cool breeze lulled
half-asleep
as we sped past
this dry singed growth
intense heat glaring off
the monotonous barren hills
when suddenly I see these
wildflowers
orange splashes of colour
as if nature laughed chidingly
and I 'wake up'..
and I can hear 'you are my
sunshine'.. no more in
the background.. but irresistibly
on my lips
and I feel that smile
as they speed with us
for miles and miles
till only a memory..
yet that smile still remains
held close and bright
and hopeful..
I made you feel it too
- sometime..
