To Paul

He who would show his love for me must live.
I'll gain no peace in knowing he will die.
If suicide's the best gift he can give,
He gives it to himself, or so say I.
Such selfishness does not show love that's true.
If life continues after death, I'll see
And hurt because so many mourn for you
While for your loss they will be blaming me.
Or if there's nothing, joining in my grave
Can give no comfort, for I will not know.
No pain or sorrow can your dying save.
I'll grieve your coming death if first I go.
While we are on the subject, I must say
I'd much prefer you show your love today.
