If I Could I Would

If  I could I would

Shape each heartbeat

Into tiny leaves

That would catch the wind

Of your passing

That they may rustle

And sing a song

Praising you

Or even capture the fragrance

That you leave behind

If I could I would

Give voice to the feelings

That blow about

In my captured heart

Sometimes storm

Or sometimes the gentle breeze

Soothing, calming

A heavenly lullaby

Like a mother’s secure sigh

If I could I would

Paint a rainbow

Through my falling tears

As I gaze at the sunshine

Of your smile

When you say goodbye
