"Anmol"

She shields his eyes from the sun

But she cannot shield him

From the human stares

From the curious inhuman eyes

That pry

And mock

Her precious bundle of joy.

He looks at her blankly

Yet she knows he needs a feed

Her instinct takes over

Where facts end.

He lies still in her arms

Imprisoned in his own body

This little child

Of God

Who forsake him before

he was.

And left in His place

A mother.

And so she watches

And waits for the twitching of his eyelid

For the breath drawn in

For the finger to move

To tell her all that she wants to know.

They didn’t give him long to live

But it is enough for her

Long enough to love

And cherish

Her wealth

Her treasure

Whom she has named ‘Anmol’.

For all that he is

He was born of her

And he is priceless.
