SIDES AND TRIANGLES
How many sides?
My daughter asks
Her blue eyes
Sparkle.
I'm dazed for an instant
Thinking of sides
Chambers and places
I've sat-
Dreaming, crying
Pouring out my heart
For no one -
Night tears.
Is it equilateral?
No, I answer
Without thought
Each side is different
Rough and abrasive
Tearing yet healing
Clawing and releasing.
Soaking and drying.
She's puzzled
Wondering where I've gone
Looking back at the book
Dad is somewhere else.
All sides are equal
I finally answer right.
She smiles and writes
I dream.
