K A R V A  C H A U T H

Clad in a sari  parrot-green and with
A brightly-painted bindi on her brow,
The lady fasted at October's end
To keep the festival of 'Karva Chauth'.

Rubied and diamonded, delectably
She walked in dignity from room to room,
Glass bangles making dulcet melody,
Her arms in fragrant movement as she came

Outdoors to pray before a lucid moon
And seek her husband's wellbeing. That done,
She took a tender sip of water on
Pure lips this lady, noble as a Queen.
