LITTLE SUNFLOWER IN
OUR MIDST
(For Nadine to be read
by her
when she is much
older!)
I often wonder at your
boundless energy
As I struggle to keep
up with you
You are everywhere it
seems
And into everything
within your reach
And I get impatient
and lose my cool
Then I remember the
smart and funny things you do
I wasn't there when
you sang Amazing Grace
But I bet everyone
wore a smile in that place
It was Good Friday and
you just did what you wanted to
Though you had to be
hushed up and told to behave
I can laugh because of
what you did in church that day
I love talking to you
but what I prefer best
Is just having you in
my grasp, holding you next to my heart
And remembering all
the innocence that I left behind
But which is so very
much written in your soul and smile
And if I'm
philosophical it's still love that I feel so much for you
You are but three
years and even though you make me feel old
You bring so much
sunshine into my home and heart
For you are our little
sunflower forever blooming
Running riot in our
ordered lives but bringing joy with every step
And teaching us all
about love anew
