PEPPER

You seemed the saddest
when I left home
And the happiest of the lot
when I got back
You would rush into my arms
and press your cheek against mine

My heartbeats tried to match
your pounding heart
I would bend down and lift you
high and let my spirits
soar to new heights

Our eyes would meet and we
would speak a language which
had no alphabet no prose
No words could express the unsaid
unheard exchange of thoughts

Loyalty, faith in eachother was
never put to test
No questions ever asked
For you were by my side even when
My world seemed to fall apart

You were like a soft warm ball
of energy never tired
The best security that one could have
Like a baby that always needed
my attention
Like a child who avoided commands
or correction

Now your wet shiny nose
does not wake me up each morn
Nor do I hear your paws
scratch my door to let you in
For the world you were but a
mute animal, for me a
companion and a friend

I miss your pranks dear Pepper
May God bless your soul...
Its me now who feels the sorrow
and would be the happiest
if you scampered through the door!
