Split Wide Open

Eerie like, I find myself standing here

A bystander, watching from afar my life

While my shadow is living so immersed in it

Seemingly content and skillfully erasing strife…

I see her as the focal point of their lives

Bonding them, keeping them wholly knit

Yet I can feel the hollowness that haunts her

And hear the false lilt when she tries to fit…

Bewildered, and gripped by a deep real fear

I try to find if she is real, or I am, if I dare

For I know she suspects her soul has since fled

While I acknowledge it is my shadow living there
