Extra Miles

Life is enough a challenge
Without extra miles on the way,
Missed road signs
Vacant paths to barren pastures

I grow sad to count all the waste times
I threw the map aside
And caution
And traveled the others

How stupid to ignore the warning flags
Flashing lights
Charged ahead against the wind
Leading me nowhere.

There was only garbage there
No freshness,
No new thoughts
I did it on my own
And paid the price.
