Whenever the North Winds Blow

Whenever the north wind blows across the desert so vast

Dancing fiercely over its dry , lonely , deserted plain .

Every particle of sand dunes goes flying past .

Each tries to cling to the mirage , but in vain.

Whenever the north wind blows across the plain

Through the waving boughs their rages hover .

Green leaves , heavy with sweats and tears of rain

The weeping plants seek the trees for cover .

Whenever the north wind blows across the ocean

Ships and boats tossing and turning about

Stormy waves roll inward on the cool long beach

And the smile from the sky is wiped clean out !

Whenever the north wind blows across the mountains

Their forests, basking in the sun's breathless gleam ;

But the towering peaks stand motionless , unmoved

Woodcutters half listen and their minds half dream .

Whenever the north wind brings fear to my heart ,

I try to keep out the rain that comes along with the wind .

I , who stands nights and days in rain's pale chart

You will not ask me the colours of the wind !
