WAR OF THE ANGELS

Our God did say to Lucifer
you are my favorite one
And Lucifer did smile and bask
in the warming sun.
He told the other angels then
"You're not as high as me."
And warned of looking straight at God
by anyone but he.
The angels and the seraphim
who did work of our Lord
Marveled at angel Lucifer
who some of them adored.
This Lucifer, whose angel wings
were longer then their own
And who would stand before his God
the only one alone.
So beautiful, his wings of gold
And silver of his eyes.
His hair of finest lavender
and voice that filled the sky.
"I am as good as God himself
and beautiful as he.
I am the other God alive
now kneel and adore me."
Some of the angels knelt before
this favored one of God
And just as Lucifer had said
he gave them each a rod.
"This rod I now bestow on you
to serve me faithfully
And to cause the other angels
to bow and to agree."
God then spoke in anger at
Lucifer and they.
"Do not tempt the Lord thy God
but patiently obey.
It is not angel Lucifer
that you must adore.
It is I, your lord and God
and his righteous sword."
Lucifer then shunned his God
and bid them not obey.
"This God is old and feeble so
do as I now say. Gather all the angels from
the heavens all around.
Bid them come to me and kneel
a pledge then to be bound."
And God did watch angel Lucifer
And his soaring flock
Fly to all the reaches of
God's almighty rock.
When the angels had assembled
In a sea of wings,
Lucifer curled his cherry lips
and let his voice then sing.
"You know that I am Lucifer
the best in all the heavens
You know that God does for me
and bids me to amends.
I say to you that I alone
am suited for this task,
That I alone should be your God
to rule here all at last.
"Whoever then shall follow me
and do my bidding now,
Cross over to my side of heaven
and to my beauty bow."
And God in mute anticipation
watched the legions move
As angels chose their masters
with a somber mood.
Then God's voice rose as thunder that
shook the heavens whole
And God said to his angel flock
"You all have been so bold.
Come to me my Michael
and Gabriel my souls.
Come and take this sward I give
and make my will your goal."
Then angels on both sides of heaven
took up arms to fight
And angel's wings and swords that sing
shown the lords true might.
Gabriel and Michael led
the legions of the Lord
And Lucifer and Jealous band
felt God's bloody sword.
The storms of heavens majesty
Fought in Heaven and the sea
Thundered at the crack of dawn
To end this angels ugly song,
Lucifer now beneath the foot
Of God's angel of war
Glared at God without his rod
And pled and said no more.
God then asked him to repent
and then he could return
To serve his lord with his rod
the better then to learn
That God does have compassion
and forgiveness all the while
But also God, not spare the rod
and spoil this evil child.
Lucifer with grinding teeth
and a wicked smile
Said to God, "I'll not serve you.
I'd rather be defiled!"
God then crossed his hands before
the multitude on high
And changed the fallen Lucifer
from his pretty lie.
"Your lips shall be of dripping blood
for harm you have derived.
Your mouth shall be of jagged teeth
for me you have defied."
"Your wings of darkened leather skin
shall fly the depths you fell
And each and every follower
shall be the same as well.
I shall grant your wishes dream
and have your soul fulfilled
For you and all your followers
shall not, this day, be killed.
I shall create a kingdom that
will suit your evil soul
Where you may rule your followers
and make your kingdom whole.
A place of evil darkened deeds
and I shall call it Hell.
A place where evil souls do reign
and you shall rule it well."
"And I shall call you Devil
For I am God supreme
And I shall make this evil place
worse then any dream."
Within his heart of hearts I know
that Lucifer would say,
"I've fallen from the grace of God
and now I rue that day."
