DEATH OF DREAMS

She has no dreams anymore…

None that her heart envisages

And mind visualizes;

An open eyed relentless

Purpose and duty fastens her tight

And she plods along through life;

Anticipation is dead, desires frozen cold

Buried, so neither satin nor silk

Excite her anymore;

There are no rose petal baths, or moonlit walks

When feet sink into the damp crinkly sands,

Murmuring together, gliding hand in hand

That makes her sigh longingly so;

Naively, does she wait not to hear that quiet tread

On the portico, her attention secretly reverted

To the door, for any sound which may herald

His coming;

For Now, no longer is He awaited…

No longer does she hope to see him there; no longer

Believes that some day,

The rustle of the tall eucalyptus trees

Will waft that musky scent of his body her way

To heat the blood and make her

Tremble, like a tightly coiled spring struck gently,

Vibrating to an unknown song;

No, she has no dreams anymore

None that she knows can ever come true

Even, if only briefly, for herself, in her mind alone
