ASTER
CHAPTER
4
ANOTHER
VISIT
An
afternoon of sunshine
To sit outside and dine
on barbecue, pork steaks and ribs.
For those on the street
With houses so neat,
A day for the family and kids.
Carol
June was there
By her Daddy's chair
While he did the cooking and fussed.
Her Mom set the table
And old Auntie Mable
Told how real lemonade was a must.
Unknown
to those
In short summer clothes,
A world within this estate
Held tempest and beauty
And honor and duty
And the natural unfolding of fate.
The
girl wandered back
To her garden tract
And watched and hummed a tune.
A song of the heart,
One to stop and then start
A tear of our Carol June.

MY GARDEN, MY
BEAUTY, MY FRIEND
Carol June
(Melody: Tit Willow.)
In my garden of beauty
I feel I'm with friends
'til Mommy and Daddy come home.
With Daisies and Asters
In the colors God sends
Where all of my friends have grown.
But still there's a spot / that feels empty inside
For a friend
that is mine / and in whom
I
confide
And will always
advise me / and be on my side.
My garden, my
beauty, my friend.
When soft breezes blow
And whisper they care,
I listen and wonder and hope.
Some fair weather friends
seem to share their despair
and cause me to struggle and grope.
I require only one / to be true indeed.
To look
after my heart / when I'm very in need
And to
sway me when I think / of a cruel or
mean deed.
My
garden, my beauty, my friend.
Please help me dear flowers / to find my own
way
And a
truly devoted / friend who will stay
And show
some compassion / on every day.
My
beauty, my garden, my friend.

Hiding
near by
With eyes to the sky
And hidden by petals bright,
The garden's sweet fairy
Listened and tarried
And wondered of things wrong and right.
It
seemed such a shame
To wish only in vain
For a friend with whom to share
Her thoughts inside
And in whom to confide
And who would always be fair.
"Carol
June." A voice rang
As Auntie Mable sang.
"It's time to eat, my pet.
There's fresh corn on the cob,
Enough for a mob,
And barbecue, all you can get."
Mayor
Toad looked on
And after Carol was gone
Could tell that the fairy was taken
By the girl's wistful stare
And her loneliness there,
As though her small heart was breaking.
"Aster,
we need you now.
But, it will work out somehow.
Things like this do, you see.
Just first things first!
We must deal with the worst
And leave all the details to me."
Her
duty was clear,
In this garden lurked fear
For the creatures who loved and played.
They had wished for her
And she loved them sure
And help them she would, though afraid!
"Why
look!" said the mayor.
"Yes, look over there!
It's jolly old Harry, the snake.
A bit slow you know
but still a good Joe.
Thought his cousin, last week, was a rake."
"Hello
Harry."
Sweetly whispered the fairy.
"You're looking trim today.
It's so nice to see you
And it's also quite true
We'd like to hear what you have to say."
"Oh
golly gee,
Miss flower fairy.
Your making my spots turn pink.
Your such a sweet girl
And I love your blond curl.
I'd even do tricks for a wink.
I
won't make a scene
But I still can dream
And snakes have feelings too.
They can feel good or bad
Or happy or sad
But lately, I'm just feeling blue."
|
IF
I
Harry
the Snake
(Melody: If I Only Had a Brain)
If I was smart like Bumble Bee,
I’d invite Miss Fairy to tea
And impress her with my charms.
Well, I guess I must confess
That I'm in such a mess.
Life's not easy without arms.
If I could stop my nasty habits
Of having lunch with rabbits
And driving squirrels insane,
I could help the Fairy Aster
To avoid some small disaster
And receive some rich acclaim.
Oh, if I
Could watch the sky,
As clouds roll by
And know the reason why.
Or if she
Could look at me
And really see
A handsome guy.
But I guess my rabbit stewing
And constant squirrel pursuing
Will always still remain.
Guess I'll go on sniffing flowers
And daydreaming here for hours
About a fairy just the same.
|
"Oh
now, Mister Harry,
I hope you'll be merry.
Mayor Toad and Woolly and I
Will make you feel better,
Right down to the letter.
So good you'll think you could fly.

UP
AND CALL OUR NAME
The
Fairy, Mayor Toad and Mister Woolly
(Melody: If I Only Had a Brain.)
When your life's not seeming easy
And your down and feeling queasy,
Don't grumble and complain.
Pick up your spirits sagging
And your lonely feet a dragging
And just up and call our name.
When the skies are awful cloudy
And things seem kind of rowdy,
Don't moan and groan and jeer.
Just walk out in the sun
And we'll declare you number one
And we'll say it loud and clear.
Or you
Could watch the sky
And find out why
The clouds go rolling by
Or you
Could make it rain
Or lion tame
And get your chance at fame.
Just remember though you're aching
And your heart feels like it's breaking,
You still can always say,
They're here to help their buddy
Even if he's kind of funny
In a lovable sort of way.
|
"Gosh
everyone.
I'm done feeling glum.
You've brightened my day no end.
When next I feel bad
Or lonely or sad
I'll just up and call a friend."
"As
the Mayor of this place
I should say it's bad taste
To talk of plans right now
But I must insist
That we plan to resist
The spider's magic somehow."
"Call
all who can hear
From far and near
To a meeting this very night.
We'll plan a defense
To work hard against
Rouge Noir's despicable plight."
"I
also suggest
Some games for a rest
And maybe a sassafras spinner.
We'll mix our meeting
With a neighborly greeting
While dancing and having our dinner."
Mister
Woolly went forth
To the garden up north
And fast Bumble Bee flew east.
Inch Worm did his best
To the puddles out west
And Harry went south to the beast.
