SUFFOCATING SHADOWS

Encaged, in this room I lie
Just a room-bound misfit, I
Here the floor is wall to wall
The walls are floor to ceiling
The windows barred and sealed
My words  muffled and stilled.
In this haunted room dismal is the air,
Just a hovering horror everywhere.
I stare wild-eyed
into the never- ending night
trying to make shapes of suffocating shadows...
...dissipating... memories....

Once in the corner of this room
I tried to grow a tree
A happy tree... my own tree,
The twilight tree of my life-
Its leaves were soft and supple,
On the lawns of its tongue
flowers blossomed,
sweet scented words oozed out,
Its birds sang poems to me.
Then
without warning he came
with an axe of forged excuses
came - and chopped it down.

In this room again I lie
Alone in the sleeves of grief
My words have passed
Raping graves and empty seasons,
The shouts of silence now fill the darkness
Darkness and silence - the perfect couple.
