FATHER AND CHILD

A cry, a gurgle, a bundle of joy
Was overwhelmed holding you in my arms
As you held on to me
Seducing me with your angelic charms

Saw you toddle, reach out to me
Whenever you'd feet you'd fall
I was your world, the moon and the stars
Was there by you, every beck and call

Changing you, washing nappies
Lulling you to sleep
With gentle words, soft caresses
Heating milk to give you feed

Rocking your cradle as you would cry
Singing the best songs I could
Hugging you close, when you'd open your eyes
Thought I did it all, whet every father should

Left you behind when I had to leave
The divorce, something I couldn't explain
To my 'lil angel snug with his mom
Was left lonely, hurting in pain

As time did pass, you reached out to me
A second time, tiny arms so wide
Papa, Hug me.....hold me tight
Forgot my pain and had to abide

To the voice within that he aroused
Knew just what I had to do...
His eyes had said a 1000 words
Each word a plea, each plea so true

Mom loves me, but I love you too,
Can I steal a few moments away
I'm lonely and miss you so bad
Meet me daddy, please make my day..

Smother your face with light kisses
To love you even more
Sit with you, play with you
Listen to you as a friend so pure

Hold your hand and walk with you
My child, my angel, my friend
I'm by your side, in body and mind
Follies that I have to mend

That what u ask of papa dear
A lil time....love and care
If just a day, an hour in it
That you and I could share

Moments of bliss, untold laughter
Hearing you, understanding your pain,
Healing you with all my love
A cry, a gurgle, a bundle of joy again.
